October 24th 2004 at Kaiko-en 3 PM - 9 PM

We are excited to announce the tenth anniversary of Mitate! To celebrate we will be having an anniversary event at Kaiko-en, a beautiful Japanese house located near Gosho.

On October 24th, our event will commence around 3:00 PM with a musical performance

refreshments of macha tea and light food followed by

a lecture given by Alex Kerr , author of Lost Japan and Dogs and Demons .

He began to restore a beautiful old straw-thatched- roof house in the Iya valley, Tokushima Pref. Shikoku in 1973, which became famous as Chiiori House. Being an Oriental Antiques collector and cultural consultant, he is also active as an organizer of seminars on economically sustainable means to preserve and revive traditional lifestyles and Japanese traditional arts.

(Entrance fee will be announced soon, students and others can get discounts.)

We will end the evening with a second musical performance beginning around 7:45 PM. You can also check the latest news in our Homepage (www.info.mitate.org)

This event will allow time for us to reflect on what Mitate has done in the past ten years as well as bring new energy and focus for the years to come. We hope to reach out to Kyoto residents with ways in which they can use their unique skills and resources to revitalize the structures and designs of Japanese culture. In particular, we want to include Kyoto's younger generation in this event. So please, spread the news and get people excited about this event!
